DAVID P. GREEN, MD, Clinical Professor Emeritus, Department of Orthopaedics, University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio
He is best known as the editor of two widely used orthopaedic and hand surgery textbooks: Rockwood and Green’s Fractures and Green’s Operative Hand Surgery.  Born in El Paso, Texas in 1936, he graduated cum laude from Pomona College in 1958 and went on to Baylor Medical College, where he was a junior AOA.  In 2016 he was named Baylor College of Medicine’s Distinguished Alumnus of the year. A 1967 graduate of the New York Orthopaedic Hospital (NYOH) residency program, thirty years later he was named Outstanding Alumnus of the NYOH.  He started his academic career as a full time faculty member at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. His passion is teaching residents and fellows, and he takes great pride in the 100+ alumni of the fellowship program of the Hand Center of San Antonio, of which he is the Founding President
.    Dr. Green was a 1975 ABC Travelling Fellow of the American Orthopaedic Association, and is a past President of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand and the American Foundation for Surgery of the Hand.  He has been Visiting Professor or Invited Guest Speaker at more than 100 academic institutions and national programs in the U.S. and many foreign countries.
In 2009 he founded an Educational Endowment Fund to support the residents and those under the umbrella of San Antonio Metropolitan Ministries and Haven for Hope, two organizations in San Antonio that provide care, services, and guidance for people who are homeless or are at risk of becoming homeless.  Although still in its infancy, to date the Fund has dispensed $600,000 to 1512 individuals.
